LSFRS Final Research Reports

Submission Requirements

Due Date: May 12th, 2017
Mentor Approval:  Attach an email confirmation from your official faculty mentor (not graduate student, post-doc or other lab team member) approving your final report. 


Abstract: 100-250 words

Keywords: Include 2 to 5 key terms.

Article: 1000-2500 words (2-5 Pages)

Sections: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results (or Progress to Date*), Discussion, and Literature Cited

*: For projects that do not have results, have very limited results, or have results that mentors consider proprietary (editors of journals DO NOT consider data in publications of this type to be “prior publication” or “previously published”) a description of accomplishments and evidence for why this is the beginning of a contribution should substitute Progress to Date for Results.  Progress might include descriptions of your apparatus, field sites, tissues cultured, histological slides prepared, plasmids engineered, etc.

Authorship: The LSFRS student must be first author, and the mentor must be last author.  Other authors should be listed in whatever order the student and mentor see fit.  Include an address line with email addresses for the authors.

Font, etc.: Use 12-point Times New Roman with 1” margins.  Use the overall hierarchy of title (16-point bold), section (14-point bold), subsection (12-point underlined).

Tables:  Include no titles for the table.  Include your caption over the table with complete sentences. Tables should be included as images and not Word tables due to issues with formatting pages for the final report. See instructions for converting tables to images below. 

Figures: All figures should be in picture format and included on the last page of the final document (please reference the figures in your manuscript).  Include no titles on the figures.  Include your caption below the figure with complete sentences. Charts must be included as images (ie: .jpg files). See instructions below. 

Important note: All photographs and illustrations require copyright permission for inclusion. If you or a research team member provided the photograph or illustration, then include the photographer or artist name with the image.

To convert a graph or table into an image, copy the item from and then paste it as an image (right-click and selectsavepic  .)
